The musician died suddenly, with his heartbroken bandmates announcing the tragic news in a joint statement. Guitarist Josh Higgins, 26, guitar, drummer Carl Dillon, 27, and bassist Arran O'Connell, 26, paid tribute to their "childhood best friend".

It is heart breaking to hear the tragic news, when the band first started we had the pleasure of working with them in their early years. The Scouse traits could be seen in each member and the warmth we felt from the whole team was inspiring. We’re so sad to hear of this news and hope the band have a strong support system around them.

“We are devastated to share the sudden passing of our best friend Sean”, they said; “Words can’t describe the pain we are feeling right now, we’re still struggling to process it all. We ask everyone to respect the privacy of Sean’s family and friends during this difficult time.” - The Night Cafe

Other local musicians paid tribute to Sean in the comments section of the Instagram post. Fellow Scouse band The Wombats, who The Night Cafe have toured with, said:

“So sorry to hear this guys, he was literally the nicest, most lovely guy to have around on tour. Not to mention how talented and amazing he was.” - The Wombats

The Night Café, inspired by the Vincent van Gogh painting of the same name, established themselves in 2013 before releasing two EPs, Get Away from the Feeling and Bunkbed in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Their studio album 0151 dropped in 2019.

Details surrounding the cause of death and when Martin passed away are still yet to be disclosed and people are urging others to give both Sean’s family and his bandmates privacy during this difficult time.
